Cristiano Ronaldo hits 760 milestone as Juve win coppa italia

Cristiano Ronaldo hit the 760th goal of his career - earning a possible world record to help Juventus win 2-0 aganist Napoli.

The Portugal forward volleyed a close-range opener, and substitute Alvaro Morata sealed victory in injury time seconds after a brilliant save from Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Ronaldo's goal may have seen him overtake a disputed total from Josef Bican to become the highest scorer of all time.

Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne missed a penalty with 10 minutes left, before Italian champions Juve - who are fifth in Serie A after Sunday's 2-0 loss to Inter Milan - confirmed their ninth Super Cup win.

"It is a great joy to win a trophy," Pirlo told Rai Sport.

"It is even more beautiful than winning as a player. It is difficult to see beautiful finals. It was important to win above all after the defeat against Inter. We had to show our pride."

Pirlo's side controlled much of the game, but had their Polish keeper to thank for keeping Napoli at bay with two outstanding saves.

Szczesny's quick reactions saw him parry away Andrea Petagna's header from close range before half-time, and he was alert enough to extend his left foot out when diving the other way to stop Matteo Politano's shot in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Ronaldo was Juve's main threat, scoring his 32nd goal in 32 games for his club when a corner fell perfectly for him in the six yard area after deflecting off Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Arsenal set to sign Martin Odegaard

Arsenal have made an approach to Real Madrid for attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard.

The Norway international is expecting to be granted his wish to leave on loan this month for regular first-team football, and the Real Madrid board is currently considering the latest proposal from the London club.

The 22-year-old impressed while on loan at Sociedad last season, registering seven goals and nine assists across 36 appearances, and it was thought there was an option for a further season-long loan, but Real decided to call him back and be part of the first-team squad.

Ac Milan set to sign fikayo Tomori

AC Milan are hoping to complete the signing of Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea in the next 48 hours.

The Serie A club have been locked in talks with Chelsea this week over a loan move for the centre-back which includes an option to buy at around £25m.

Milan want to have Tomori at their disposal for their Serie A game against Atalanta on Saturday, and potentially ready to come straight into the starting line-up as all of their senior centre-backs are unavailable.

According to Sky in Italy, AC Milan hope the 23-year-old will be able to fly into Italy by Thursday night in order for him to undergo a medical on Friday.

The club's technical director Paolo Maldini said on Monday: "We saw in him the quality to throw him into the mix with our current defenders, so that’s why we want him."

"Van Dirk is recovering well," Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen klopp has confirmed the 29-year-old is progressing well in his recovery but says it is too early to predict a potential return date for the Netherlands international.

"I don't know what is possible and what is not possible, I don't know if I'm the right person to judge that 100 per cent, but he looks really good," said the Liverpool manager.

"I spoke with him this morning on the phone and he is in a really good mood, so it's all very promising. But I don't know when he will be back.

No world Cup for you says FIFA

The idea of a breakaway European 'Super League' has been emphatically rejected by FIFA and the game's six continental confederations, with the threat of a ban from the World Cup for any players that take part.

American banking giant JP Morgan  is said to be prepared to finance the competition with Europes high ranks ready to participate.

"Any club or player involved in such a competition would as a consequence not be allowed to participate in any competition organised by FIFA or their respective confederation."

The statement added: "The universal principles of sporting merit, solidarity, promotion and relegation, and subsidiarity are the foundation of the football pyramid that ensures football's global success and are, as such, enshrined in the FIFA and confederation statutes.

"Football has a long and successful history thanks to these principles. Participation in global and continental competitions should always be won on the pitch."
