During the
summer transfer window, we experienced many European clubs making high money
moves in order to strengthen their squads. However, not all the summer signings
have made it to the standards and expectations of their fans. In todays episode
lets look at the top 5 summer signings who have flopped this season.
5.
Tanguy Ndombele
After
finishing as the runners up of the UEFA champions league last season, Tottenham
Hotspurs opted to strengthen their midfield by signing French defensive midfielder
to help the non-dependable Eric Dier and departed Victor Wanyama. Ndombele
immediately became the clubs most expensive signing valued at $64M. However,
ndombele hasn’t leaved to expectations as he has recorded 1.5 tackles per game
compared to 2.5 expected and 0.8 Key passes compared to last seasons 2.1 per 90
minutes. As a reason Ndombele, has lost his spot in the Tottenham Hotspurs
starting IX to English central Midfielder Harry Winks.
4. Antoine Griezmann
The veteran Attacking midfielder who has the ability
to plays any role in the frontline left Atletico Madrid to replace Phillipe
Coutinho and Neymar in the Braugranas starting IX. Griezmann attacking prowess
in Atletico Madrid was expecting to be moon fire when he gets to the dominating
football of Barcelona compared to the Defensive football played by Diego Simeone’s
Atletico Madrid. Griezmann’s lack of
activity led to Barcelona signing a player in mid-February, Martin Braithwaite
from Leganes. So far, the French forward has 8 goals in laliga and only 2 in
the Champions league this season.
3. Nicolas Pepe
Pace, fox in the box, freekick specialist and above
all creative all-round winger. Nicolas pepe was tamed to be the New Mohammed
Salah in the English premier league. Arsenal paid 70M in order to acquire the
services of the left footed winger from Lille in the 2019 summer transfer
window. Pepe serviced French lique one last season with 22 goals and 11 assist
last season. However, things haven’t worked to the favor of the Young Ivorian
after recording 4 goals so far and 6 assists with one of the goals coming from
the penalty spot.
2. Joao Felix
Tipped to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor at the
Portuguese National Team, Joao Felix made a huge money move of $130 in the
summer from Benfica to Atletico Madrid. Felix technical abilities were expected
to be of high demand to even replace Atletico Madrid’s Top Scorer, Antoine
Griezmann. However, the 20 years old has only registered 4 goals and 1 Assist
in 20 matches this season compared to last seasons 15 goals and 7 assists in 26
matches.
1. Eden Hazard
Chelsea’s top scorer in the last two seasons, Eden
Hazard saw his time at Stamford bridge end in style after winning UEFA Europa
league final against bitter rivals Arsenal last season. Real Madrid were long
term admires of the veteran winger and as a result they decide to cheque out
$100M in order to get the services of the Belgian Winger. However, unlike
others, Hazards success at real Madrid has been handed by day in day out
injuries he has acquired since joining the los Blanco’s. Hazard has only
featured 10 times and registered only a single goal and one Assist compared to
15 and 16 last seasons at Real Madrid.
That’s todays list even though there are several
players who didn’t make moves this season and have also disappointed like Paul
Pogba and David De Gea of Manchester United, Napoli’s Captain Lorenzo Insgne, Barcelona’s
Ousmane Dembele and even Real Madrid’s Luca Jovicic.
